Politics now cash cow in Ghana - Antwi-Danso

Politics has now become a profit-making venture in Ghana, Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) at the University of Ghana, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso has said.

Delivering a public lecture to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the investiture of Hilla Limann–Ghana’s only president of the third Republic–Dr Antwi-Danso bemoaned that politics has now lost its true essence.

“In most parts, politics has become a conduit for personal glorification: a path towards life and living”, he said, adding that all “political morality has been thrown to the wind”.

“Indeed a profit-oriented profession, other than that a Minister will not say: ‘As for me, I want to make one million dollars before I leave’ office. [S]he was talking for all of them, anyway, not all, but many of them”, he explained.

He was making reference to sacked Deputy Minister of Communication, Victoria Hamah, who was caught on tape saying she did not want to risk losing her job in government when she could not yet boast of a million dollars in her bank account.
