Poly rectors call for cordial gov’t-POTAG relationship

Conference of Rectors of Polytechnics is asking government to engage lecturers of the various polytechnics more in dialogue in order to ensure peaceful industrial climate.

The call was made on Thursday, September 4 at the Accra Polytechnic, where a new executive body of the local Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) was inaugurated.

Rector of Accra Polytechnic Dr Sylvester Achio on behalf of his colleagues called for more dialogue between government and the polytechnic teachers in order to avert the kind of situation that led to the three-month strike of POTAG.

POTAG called off its strike, one of the longest industrial actions witnessed in the country in recent times, after government agreed to pay members’ their book and research allowances for the 2013/2014 academic year.

There has been fresh agitation among the lecturers after some of them complained their August salaries have not been paid.
