Accra, April 4, GNA - Former President Jerry John Rawlings in a tribute to the memory of Pope John Paul II and the Catholic family has described the Pontiff as a man who offered mankind inspirations to work for a more just, peaceful and compassionate world.
"Pope John Paul II lived a bold life; the life of a true Christian; did not hold back the truth and his convictions and sought for justice wherever it was lacking," Former President Rawlings stated in statement issued in Accra on Monday by his Office.
The statement said the Pope exhibited divine compassion and was true to his conscience..."a divine service and quality required of us as followers of Christ".
Former President Rawlings said the Pope endeared himself to the world due to his outgoing nature and his affable personality changed the austere face of the papacy.
"On behalf of Nana and myself, I pray that his journey home was not unduly painful and may the spirit of goodwill that resided in him rest in us all," the statement concluded.
Pope John Paul II died on Saturday, April 2.
