Portions of Kadjebi roads awarded for grading

Accra, June 30, GNA - The un-tarred portions of the Kadjebi-Oti Damanko road together with others in the Nkwanta North Constituency have been awarded for grading at a contract sum of 5.22 billion cedis Tenders have also been received for the construction of the seven-kilometre gap between Kadjebi and Dzindzinso and are being evaluated.

"The works contract will be awarded by the end of August this year. The project will be funded by the government of Ghana," Mr Magnus Opare-Asamoah, Deputy Road Transport Minister said these in Parliament on Friday during question time.

In response to another question, he told the House that the Offuman-Tuobodom feeder road in the Brong Ahafo region has been programmed for routine and recurrent maintenance this year. The Deputy Minister said this road, together with others in the Brong Ahafo region was advertised in the Ghanaian Times in May this year and "it is expected that the procurement process would have been completed for the award of the contract by the end of July 2006." Mr. Joe Gidisu, (NDC-Central Tongu) also asked the Minister about plans to facelift the Adidome town roads in the Volta Region. Mr. Opare-Asamoah said the tarring of the Adidome town roads was being undertaken on phases.

"The first phase of the upgrading of the three kilometer Adidome junction - Adidome roads was awarded to Messrs Rolider Limited at a contract sum of 4.7 billion cedis..... The project is expected to be completed by 19th February, 2007."

"Works completed to date is 50 per cent. Works done to date include earth works, sub-base and base. The project is ahead of schedule. The Ministry had approved an additional 2.9km for the tarring of the town roads as an addendum to the on-going contract," he added.

Mr Opare-Asamoah also told the house that two feeder roads, Yama-Mishio and Yama-Bulbia, together with others in the Walewale Constituency, were awarded for reshaping last two years. The Minister, who was responding to questions about the status of some roads in the Walewale constituency, said the reshaping of these roads, already completed, was at a contract sum of 1.466 billion cedis.
