President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his dedication to servant leadership, stressing that the allure of power will not divert him from his mission to serve the nation.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, 15 December 2024, Mahama shared thoughtful reflections on his political journey, shaped by both victories and challenges.

Following his resounding triumph in the 7 December elections, the President-Elect expressed his profound gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming trust and called for collective action to address the country’s pressing challenges.

“When I lost in 2016, the Christmas hampers stopped coming. The many people who used to come to my gate and try to see me for a minute stopped coming. It was only my siblings, my family, my closest friends, and my church members who stood by me,” Mahama recounted, drawing smiles and nods from the congregation.

“So for me, these trappings of power don’t get to my head. I know that all the praises and blessings showered on you are temporary, and it is because of the word ‘president’ attached to your name. One day, it will go,” he added, reminding listeners of the fleeting nature of titles and the importance of humility in leadership.

The President-Elect emphasised the need for unity and collaboration among Ghanaians, urging everyone to come together to confront the challenges facing the country.

He pledged to lead with renewed focus, describing his election victory as a mandate to deliver meaningful change.

“This victory is not about me; it is a call to serve and to work tirelessly for the betterment of the country. Leadership is not about enjoying the trappings of high office but about connecting to the realities and needs of the people,” he added.
