Fishers at Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District have warned their counterparts from other coastal areas to desist from engaging in illegal fishing practices, including light fishing, in their waters.
According to the fishers, they have no other profession and rely solely on fishing to make a living and educate their children.
They claim that despite their efforts to protect their waters, some fishers from neighbouring areas sneak in to engage in illegal fishing practices, which is a worry to them.
The Chief Fisherman at Prampram, Nene Sorosey Quashie, has called on authorities to strengthen disciplinary measures against those who flout the rules.
The fishers have threatened to take matters into their own hands if the authorities fail to act.
The warning comes as this year’s July closed season comes to an end.
