“The forum was not right. He could have said that at a cabinet meeting…" Mr Pratt said.
President John Dramani Mahama a few days ago indicated that he was under pressure to sack his Finance Minister, Seth Terkper.
He made this disclosure when the new Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana, Patience Akyianu visited him at the Flagstaff House.
The President stated that calls for the dismissal of the Finance Minister were as a result of the many reforms Mr. Terkper was introducing at the Finance Ministry that are against the traditions that have been in existence over the years.
Speaking to the issue on peace FM's ‘Kokrokoo’ programme, Kwesi Pratt said there was no need for the President to have made such comment ‘especially in front of the Barclays Bank Managing Director’.
“The forum was not right. He could have said that at a cabinet meeting…, I don’t understand but he knows what he wants to achieve and how he wants to do it… Inflation is on ascendancy, the cedi is dropping and so on and so if the President says he has confidence in the finance minister, he knows best,” he stated.
According to the Managing Editor, because the President had expressed absolute confidence in the actions of the finance minister, “it means he is also responsible for actions of the finance minister and the performance of the economy.”
