Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, says he believes strongly that Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo will again contest for the flagbearership position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Some executives and members of the NPP, after the ruling of the Supreme Court, have been vouching for their 2012 presidential candidate to contest again for the flagbearership position and to run as their presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.
General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John indicated in an interview that even if Nana Akufo-Addo was stucked in a wheelchair, he will push him around to contest for the flagbearership position of their party.
This came as a surprise to another section of the party especially when Nana Akufo-Addo has indicated in his acceptance speech that he will be taking a rest from active politics to reflect and decide on his next move.
However, contributing to panel discussions on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji programme, Kwesi Pratt says "from my knowledge of Nana Akufo-Addo, Nana will run. It is very very clear to me that Nana will run".
According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo is "perhaps the most popular person" in the NPP because a lot of people are calling for him to contest again.
"I have no doubt that given the situation in the NPP and other consideration, Nana Akufo-Addo is perhaps the most popular person in the NPP today and if he were to engage in a popularity contest today, nobody will be able to beat him. I am not sure if the same can be said for Ghana...but within the NPP, I have no doubt at all that he is perhaps the most popular person within the party" he opined.
He is also suggested that age will not be a problem for Nana Akufo-Addo because the 1992 constitution of Ghana gives no age limit to presidential candidates.
"The 1992 constitution sets out the qualification for presidents of Ghana. If you look at the age qualification, there is a minimum basic age; there is no upper limit to the age; so theoretically, it is possible to file a 160-year-old as a presidential candidate. What is important is that those going for the presidential candidate in the next election need to understand the mood of the people of Ghana...," he added.
