Pusiga (U/E), May 1, GNA - Preparations have reached an advanced stage towards the funeral ceremony at the weekend at Pusiga, of the late Madam Hawa Yakubu, First National Vice-Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed during a visit to the town on Monday that a major facelift was underway, while a massive decongestion exercise had been carried out in Bawku.
The road from the Presbyterian Hospital junction at Bawku through Missiga to Pusiga, which had been in a very bad shape has seen tremendous transformation. The entire 12-kilometre stretch has been gravelled.
In Pusiga itself, the street from the Market Square, leading to Madam Hawa's house has also been gravelled, while a new one has been constructed to ease vehicular traffic and for parking. The late NPP First National Vice-Chairperson's residence was being given a new lease of life as painters were busily putting finishing touches to their work.
The deceased's grave has been dug closed to her mother's within her compound.
The funeral ground just across the residence had also been levelled, but appears rather small to accommodate the numerous mourners expected.
Mr Bawa A Banga, senior brother of Madam Hawa, who is coordinating activities at Pusiga, commended the District Assembly for the massive role it played in the preparations so far. He expressed optimism that everything would be put in place to give Madam Hawa a befitting funeral. Madam Hawa died in London on March 20.
