President Kufuor leaves for G8 Summit

Accra, June 3, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra on Sunday for Berlin, to attend the 33rd Summit of the World's most industrialised nations, also called the Group of Eight(G8), scheduled for June 6-8.

At a pre-departure briefing, Mr Andrew Awuni, Presidential Spokesperson, said this year's summit would focus on economic issues, poverty reduction, intellectual property rights and Africa. Other African leaders invited to the summit are President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria, President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal and President Umaru Yar'Adua of Nigeria, Mr Awuni said.

President Kufuor would stop over in Geneva, Switzerland, to address the 96th Conference of the International Labour Organisation on Monday June 4, 2007.

From there, President Kufuor would continue to Paris, France, to have audience with newly elected French President Nicholas Sarkozy on Tuesday June 5.

The President is expected back home on Sunday June 10.
