The Paramount Chief of Nungua Traditional Area, Nii Dr Noble Odaifio Welentsi III, has described President Mahama as a man of peace for conceding defeat in 2016 elections.

According to the Nungua Mantse, ‘the way President Mahama picked a phone and congratulated Nana Addo for winning the election shows maturity and a sign of a good leader’.

He added that there could have been chaos in the country if President Mahama had refused to accept the results of the December 7 polls.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday declared the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo president-elect of Ghana winning with 53.85% of valid votes cast.

Nii Dr Noble Odaifio Welentsi III in a congratulatory statement after the December 7 elections said ‘Nana Akufo Addo is now the President-elect for the country and Ghanaians must accept it even though the result will leave many people shocked and disappointed but regardless of the feelings, there are basic actions we can take and that is to understand and accept the results because there is no substitute for victory and no consolation in defeat’.

He added that the mission of the new team should be clear; to put together the most highly qualified group of successful leaders” who will be able to implement the change agenda in Ghana and to begin the urgent task of rebuilding the country.

‘I’m therefore calling for a national unity and in putting aside differences to work for a common goal, Ghanaians have to reconcile themselves to the Nana Akufo Addo presidency, because he has the ability to govern’ he said.

The Nungua Mantse admonished Ghanaians that ‘we are strong people as a nation and I have faith our nation will survive the bitterness of its presidential election’

He advised everybody to come together as one nation and must see each other as fellow Ghanaians on the same journey to make this country a better nation for ourselves and our children.

Let’s work hard to support as best as we can the president-elect and his government.
