Accra, Feb. 1, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills returned home on Tuesday from Addis Ababa, where he attended the 16th Ordinary Session of th= e African Union.
Mr Mohammed Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who accompanied President Mills, told journalists on arrival at the Airport that President Mills delivered the key note address on the session's theme; "Greater Uni= ty and Integration through Shared Values."
He said President Mills impressed upon his colleagues that shared values had always been at the heart of Ghana's foreign policy right from independence.
Mr Mumuni said President Mills' speech generated debate which led to the leaders concluding that shared values formed the key to African unity. Touching on other highlights of the session, he said the Peace and Security Council of the AU decided to set up a high level panel to push for peaceful deliberations towards finding a solution to the political crisis in Ivory Coast.
He said Dr Tony Aidoo was also elected to the 11-member AU Advisory Board on Corruption.
President Mills also attended the African Peer Review Mechanism Summit= , where he noted that Ghana was ready for a second review, Mr Mumuni said, adding that several other decisions and declarations were adopted at the AU session.
