President's Special Assistant elected Bantama NPP Parliamentary

Kumasi, July 26, GNA - Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Special Assistant to President Kufuor, was on Sunday elected un-opposed as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Bantma.

Madam Dapaah, 49, who is also the Board Chairperson of the Cocoa Processing Company, secured all the votes of the 54 delegates present with five abstentions.

In declaring Madam Dapaah the Bantama NPP parliamentary candidate, Mr Frederick Fredua Anto, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP said, it was high time women took up the challenge of fighting for positions in the country.

This was the only way that pertinent issues affecting women could be effectively addressed.

Mr Antoh called on the supporters of the party to exercise restraint in the face of what he describe as attempts by the NDC to destabilise the country through politics of insults and lies. He said recent utterances by the leadership of the NDC were clear indications that, the main opposition party had nothing good to offer the country and that it had demonstrated the frustration they were going through.

Madam Rita Asobayire, National Women's Organiser, stressed that in view of the role women played in the socio-economic development of the country the party should not marginalize them.

Mr Daniel Yaw Gyamfi, constituency chairman, Madam Dapaah of the members' unflinching support to enable her win massively in the 2004 elections.

Madam Dapaah declared her resolve to adopt pro-active measures to ensure landslide victory in the elections.

While commending the supporters for the confidence reposed in her, she gave the assurance that she would work hard to improve upon care for the aged.
