Adaklu-Aboade (V/R), Feb. 1, GNA - An earth-breaking ceremony to be performed by President John Evans Atta Mills to formally commence works on the University of Health and Allied Sciences in the Volta Region has been fixed for Monday, February 7.
Colonel Cyril Necku, (Rtd) Deputy Volta Regional Minister gave the hin= t on Monday when he led the University Land Acquisition Team to formally accept offers of land from the chiefs and people of Adaklu, in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District and their counterparts in Hlefi in the Ho Municipa= l Area for the project.
He said all other procedural processes regarding the establishment of the university were on course for the intake of the maiden students in September this year.
Col Necku said the University Planning Teams were in contact with investors including some Chinese for the development works. The lands at Adaklu-Tsrefe were offered by the Lodome Clan of Tsrefe while that of Hlefi, by the chiefs and people of the area. Col Necku said the University project would spur all round economic development in the areas where its campuses would be sited, listing some of the opportunities as hospitality, trading and construction services. He presented assorted drinks and a ram each to the land owners, saying the relevant government agencies would carry out the necessary documentatio= n to pave way for the payment of compensation.
Lands have been acquired at Ziavi, Sokode and Hohoe for the University project which would be headquartered in Ho with satellite campuses spread throughout the Region.
Togbe Gbogbo Atsa V, Paramount Chief of Adaklu and Togbe Amoani III, Paramount Chief of Hlefi who spoke on behalf of the families who offered th= e lands, said the gift was litigation- free and were ready to provide more in future for other developmental works.
