Kumasi, March 23, GNA- Ahenkro citizens resident in Kumasi have appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor to tackle petty corruption more seriously if Ghana is to be transformed to reach a middle income status as envisaged.
This was contained in a congratulatory message to the President on his re-election and signed by its chairman, Mr John Adu-Danquah.
"Cases of financial malpractices and malfeasance in our metropolitan and district assemblies, which in fact form the bedrock of our tax mobilisation, need to be taken seriously and investigated to bring sanity into our financial mobilisation drive."
The message said corruption and graft dissipates internally generated resources, denies the government funds for execution of projects and is also the underlying contributory factor to the nation's economic malice.
It therefore behoves the President to step up efforts in tackling the issue.
While congratulating the President on his re-election to the high office, the citizens said, "Your victory was not won on a silver platter but as a result of hard work and dedication to the cause of improving the lot of the ordinary Ghanaian.''
The message expressed the hope that the second term of the President would bring positive action and hope to the citizenry.
