Appointment Of New Military Commanders
1. It would be recalled that following the recent changes made by the President, John Agyekum Kufuor, in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, certain unsavoury remarks have been made by some media practitioners, without due regard to the excellent performance of the Armed Forces High Command, given the historical and current strategic importance of the military as a corporate entity.2. For the avoidance of doubt, the Government wishes to acknowledge the excellent performance of the top military hierarchy and to express unequivocally that they were relieved of their appointments in pursuance of laid down procedures and regulations, and not for any wrong-doing or dereliction of their onerous duties.
3. The Government has enjoyed the greatest co-operation from the out-going military commanders who indeed have at all times exhibited the highest sense of judgement, military discipline and efficiency.
4. Indeed, these fine officers of high repute leave office with honour, decorum and pride. Any suggestion to the contrary is mischief and a taint on their hard-earned reputations. No one should allow these mischievous elements to bring displeasure, rancour and disaffection to the rank and file of the Ghana Armed Forces.
5. The Commander-in-Chief and his Government are proud and appreciate the tremendous efforts of these sons of the Nation and would acknowledge their loyalty, professionalism and dedication appropriately in due course of time. Let no one take them for granted.
