Press and Military in the Volta region revive relationship

The Volta/Oti regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has joined forces with the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Nutekpor in the South Tongu district of the Volta region to improve the security issues in the two regions and also renewed their relationship.

The two entities, on Tuesday, 11th June 2024, pledged to work collaboratively during a one-day working visit to key public institutions in the Volta Region by Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Commodore Asiedu-Larbi of the NAVTRAC.

Speaking at the brief meeting held at the Volta Press Centre in Ho, the Volta/Oti Chairman of the GJA, Emmanuel Agbaxode noted that, the GJA has a long-term relationship with the Military hierarchy in the region, and that, the visit by the Commodore is a good move.

Emmanuel Agbaxode noted that Commodore Asiedu-Larbi is the only Military Commander who has visited the press centre to meet members of the association, and praised him for such a move.

He pledged the association's readiness to work with the Military to ensure that the region continues to have the existing peaceful cohesion.

The chairman also said the revived relationship with the Command will go a long way.

"We're therefore hopeful that this visit will lead to a more fulfilling working relationship between your outfit and the media in the region, as we can assure you of our utmost support during your tenure."

On his part, Commodore Asiedu-Larbi also pledged to play his role in ensuring that, the existing peace and cordial relationship between the Military and the press does not fade.

Speaking on the Military's role in this year's elections, the officer mentioned that, the Military is on standby for operations before, during and after the election whenever they are called upon.

Commodore Asiedu-Larbi also pledged to support the upcoming regional GJA awards and also construction of the final phase of the Press centre, situated in the capital, Ho.

The Commodore is the commander of all the garrisons in the Volta and Oti regions, he succeeds Commodore Atiayao.
