Press statement by northern young democrats on the bankswitch saga

The leadership of Northern Young Democrats has read with great dismay about the various comments and publications by New Patriotic Party members of parliament and some senior members trying to dent the hard worn reputation of Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah who has toiled to earn this world recognized reputation and good will in his quest to save our beloved country over one billion Ghana cedis in the near future if we cannot pay the outright debt of ¢197 million cedis.
As a former minister of Communication, Education, Sports and Chief Executive of Common Wealth Communication he is so much endowed with experience in some of this dealings and no individual can doubts his credibility with regards to his public service and political experience.
It is rather unfortunate hearing from people like Mathew Opoku (napo) and Dr Akoto Osei who should have rather been ashamed for going to the extent of testifying against Ghana as a former minister of Finance which he sworn an oath of secrecy and also sworn to protect and defend at all times, the question now is why will a patriot be doing this to his mother country?
We see it to baseless for the minority in parliament suggesting that the minister should be summon to the house to answer question. We the Young Democrats thinks that they are not on top of modern and recent modalities in respect to repayment of debts as is it widely now practice by many European countries. We however think that they just been sarcastic because they are aware of this practice since it was not new in Ghana as we having been practicing it, most especially with ministry of roads.
We want to put in on record that the said letter was not a secret document but a public record us they sort to suggest and indeed there was collaboration among all concern ministries eg .ministry finance and the attorney general. The minister has not any way broken any financial law (procurement law) and that it was just a proposal to the said DICs and not contract or commitment of government to them.
We the Young Democrats will fully support any individual who in any legal way try to save mother Ghana with any kind of debt.
As a nation with so much unemployed graduates it is better to keep encouraging and supporting our own industries in order to create more job opportunities rather than disadvantaging them which will lead to laying-offs as we stand many of the current employees of the DICs are on the line if by the close of august 1,2015
We therefore want to caution the said individuals who actually are not following the issues but rather want to tarnish the hard working minister to put a stop to it because he will be vindicated one day on this issue some years to come and we also want to encourage the minister to continue giving out his best and not be perturb about what some unscrupulous individuals are trying to do to him.
Long live Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah long live Mother Ghana
