Reliable information available to Peacefmonline.com indicates that a Chief State Attorney in the Attorney General’s office (name withheld) has been caught in a web of bribery and sleaze.
The Chief State Attorney is prosecuting a case of alleged rape and armed robbery involving six suspects, which has been running in court for a little over three years. He is reported to have negotiated a fee of between GH¢3500 to GH¢5000 in order to secure the release of one of the suspects, claiming that he had evidence proving the innocence of the said suspect.
According to the family, the 32-year old suspect (name withheld) who has been on remand since 2008 was arrested together with five others and charged with rape and armed robbery at Adenta Lotto kiosk, where they were said to have also stolen a laptop, digital camera, 42? LCD Television and GH¢10,000.
Two of the suspects are said to have been acquitted and discharged through the initiative of the said Chief State Attorney (CSA).
Portions of a recording aired on Kokrokoo on Peace FM on Thursday, August 25, amongst others have the attorney and the member of the family in negotiation over the figure and earlier offers of money, which the family had offered and the prosecuting attorney had accepted.
Here is excerpts of what the attorney said in the recording:
CSA: “I have warned you that nobody should come to my house but it looks like you don’t understand the kind of work I am doing. This is the reason why I passed everything through somebody so you have to deal through him; you don’t have to come to my house…,”
CSA: “…. the money is small, that is not what I requested, and I said you should bring 35 but you only brought 20 so I cannot do the work. I have to give some of the money to the man sitting on the case so this is too small. …I don’t even have to talk to you; I am doing something for you so you have to find ways and means to settle it so I do the job. I don’t have to stand and talk to you, there are lawyers and judges where I am and they don’t have to see that something is going on”.
We are reliably informed that the Chief State Attorney is currently being investigated by the Bureau of National Investigations.
