Probe Into Killing Of Ghanaian In Togo Under Way

Investigations into the alleged killing of a Ghanaian by the Togolese security forces during last week?s post-election violence in Lome, Togo, has begun.

?We are currently treating the information as rumour but we are investigating to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the reports,? a source close to the security services at the border told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Aflao, last week Friday.

The source noted that during such tumultuous occasions as the one that occurred in Lome people commonly spread unverifiable information, but added that the security dig deep into the matter ?to get the truth or the lie.?

?The Togolese security are willing to help establish the truth about the reports,? the source said.

Meanwhile, the security dismissed another rumour that a Togolese soldier last Thursday shot across the frontier, injuring a Ghanaian fisherman at Aflao.

The authorities at the Afloa district hospital where the alleged injured fisherman was said to have been rushed to also denied receiving any such patient.
