Labour expert, Autsin Gamey has asked government to initiate a probe into the allegations leveled against the Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbor’s Authority (GHAPOHA) by aggrieved staff.

Workers of GHAPOHA in the Western region on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at a press conference accused Peter Mac Manu of conflict of interest by dishing contracts to his wife and children.

Addressing the press conference, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Joseph Aseeph said the Mr. Mac Manu who is a former National Chairman of the ruling government took over ticketing for staff travels, adding the Authority “is being priced at cut-throat prices.”

“We are paying two and three times more than other competitors are offering for ticketing,” he alleged.

Mr. Mac Manu in a riposte described the allegations as bogus, vowing to make available documents soon to prove to Ghanaians that the allegations are nothing but lies.

“It is bogus and when I come to Accra we will delve into it,” Mr. Mac Manu told Starr News.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Gamey told Starr News the government must probe the allegations despite the Board chair’s unequivocal denials.

“The Union is a strategic partner if they have raised this concern I’m sure the president will be a lot more concerned about it than ordinarily him saying he is qualified. That may not be sufficient enough to deter the president from taking any appropriate action,” he stated.

He added: “Ghana Ports and Habour Authority is not just a business it is a security zone, so you cannot work there and show forth such form of disdain when a matter like this is raised by the Union.”
