A former Head of Government and Official Spokesperson of the erstwhile Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), Major Osahene Boakye-Djan (Rtd), has contended that ‘Probity and Accountability’, known to be the foundation pillars that anchored the main opposition NDC was his intellectual property.
These principles have come to the fore during the NDC’S period of stewardship, where Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has popularly been credited with.
However, interacting with host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Major Osahene Boakye-Djan (retd), said the principle was borne out of his own creation in pursuance of his free Africa movement.
Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, has been known as the leader of the June 4 uprising, while Major(Rtd) Boakye-Djan is reported to be very instrumental in that coup d’etat that saw “a political resettlement” in Ghana.
But setting the records straight on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Major(Rtd) Boakye-Djan said he was at the forefront of the (June 4) revolution, and dismissed claims that ex-military leader, Jerry John Rawlings led the activities of the uprising.
“He only led the 15th May movement but was later incarcerated, and I fought with few friends and brought him out which culminated in the June 4th. So he was actually the Ceremonial Head and I was supposed to be the Head of the Executive in government. So the contention is not who brought what into being, the whole motivation is about the Free Africa Movement which he doesn’t even talk about,” he argued.
The two ex-military men have a long-standing feud. Some have linked the bad blood to the neglect of Major Boakye -Djan after he helped Mr. Rawlings wrestle power from General F K. Akuffo.
Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings will deliver the keynote address at a durbar of cadres and activists to climax activities marking the 39th anniversary of the uprising on Monday.
