Professor Agyekum quotes Twi proverb as he addresses Ablakwa's call for replication of Kenyan demo in Ghana

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has received a caution from the Dean of the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana, Professor Kofi Agyekum, following his call for replicating the massive demonstrations in Kenya that resulted in the withdrawal of the finance bill in Kenya.

Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is the convener for the #HandsOffOurHotel demonstration, advanced an argument for the express need of the Ghanaian youth to storm the streets and compel the government to put the brakes on the attempt to sell off four SSNIT Hotels to Rock City, a company owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

"President Akufo-Addo refused to stop the sale of our SSNIT hotels when he met with organized labour yesterday [Tuesday]," he stated.

"Akufo-Addo's appointed SSNIT board chair, Elizabeth Ohene, is also boldly justifying the stinky deal despite overwhelming opposition from Ghanaians and the protest of labour reps on her board.

"It's now confirmed beyond any scintilla of doubt — President Akufo-Addo is the chief architect of all the putrefying State Capture. It's time to declare our own version of what just happened in Kenya," he posted.

This call by Ablakwa was discussed in an edition of Peace FM's Kokrokoo program. Professor Kofi Agyekum served Okudzeto Ablakwa an Akan adage as he called for circumspection in discussing matters in Kenya vis-à-vis the prevailing situation in Ghana.

Reacting to a question by the host Kwami Sefa Kayi on what he makes of the lawmaker's statement, Professor Agyekum said, "He should remember that what fixes a home destroys another."
