Accra, Dec. 09, GNA - The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof John Atta Mills, has taken a commanding lead in 72 certified presidential results from five out of nine regions. Prof Mills polled 70,449 votes in the Volta Region,representing 91.16 percent; Northern region, 18,486 representing 61 percent; Greater Accra, 57,091 votes representing 59.61 percent; Central region, 37,994 votes representing 52.29 percent and Upper East region, 43,317 votes representing 50.47 percent.
The ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, controls four regions so far from certified Presidential results from the Electoral Commission (EC) made available to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
Nana Akufo-Addo leads in his home region of Eastern Region with 68,788 votes representing 62.43 percent; Ashanti Region, 61,188 votes representing 60.59 percent; Brong-Ahafo Region, 29,540 votes representing 55.84 percent and Western region, 80,170 votes representing 56.34 percent.
Prof Mills is trailing Nana Akufo Addo in Eastern Region by 38,156 votes representing 34.63 percent; Western Region by 53,630 votes representing 37.69 percent; Brong-Ahafo Region by 20,985 votes representing 39.67 percent and Ashanti Region by 36,162 votes representing 35.81 percent.
Nana Akufo-Addo trails Prof Mills in Volta Region by 4, 199 votes representing 5.43 percent; Northern Region by 10,061 votes representing 32.02 percent; Greater Accra by 36,724 votes representing 38.34 percent; Central Region by 32,018 votes representing 44.07 percent and Upper East Region by 30,506 votes representing 35.54 percent. According to the EC statistics, the total registered votes in the 72 certified presidential results was 1,113,886; total valid votes is 752,654 votes; total votes in ballot box was 768,206; total rejected votes 15,552; with 68.97 percent voter turn out.
