The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has congratulated Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic election as Vice President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, marking the first time a woman has ascended to that high office.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, CDD-Ghana expressed exceptional pride, recalling that Professor Opoku-Agyemang had served on the Governing Board of CDD-Ghana from its inception in 1998 until her appointment as Minister for Education in 2013.
“Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s historic journey to the Vice Presidency is not only a significant milestone for gender equality in Ghanaian politics but also a testament to her dedication to governance and public service.
“Her continued leadership will undoubtedly inspire countless women and contribute to the nation’s development," it noted.
The Center was hopeful that as Vice President, Professor Opoku-Agyemang will uphold and advance the values championed by CDD-Ghana, particularly transparent and accountable governance, integrity in public life, and inclusive social and economic development.
“The CDD-Ghana looks forward to your leadership in promoting the values that are vital to the progress of our nation.
“We are confident that your vast experience and commitment to democratic principles will continue to benefit Ghana," it stated.
In wishing her good health and success, CDD-Ghana affirmed that the Vice President-elect’s tenure would promote greater trust, accountability, and inclusivity in Ghana’s national development efforts.
“As Mother Ghana embarks on this new chapter, we are confident that Professor Opoku-Agyemang will bring to bear the values and principles that CDD-Ghana has championed over the years, contributing to a stronger, more inclusive democracy for all Ghanaians," it added.
