Incoming Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called for an investigation into the cause of the Kantamanto fire.

On January 2, 2025, around 1 a.m., parts of the Kantamanto market in Accra were gutted by fire.

Despite efforts by the Ghana Fire Service to contain the blaze and prevent its spread, their efforts proved futile as the fire destroyed several properties worth millions of cedis.

Following the fire, there have been conspiracy theories surrounding its cause.

Speaking to the traders whose wares were destroyed, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that these conspiracy theories must come to an end.

She called on the Ghana Fire Service to provide a comprehensive report after their investigation to determine the real cause of the fire.

“The rumours will not suffice in this case. What we need is a thorough investigation, and that must be done as soon as possible,” she said.
