Professor Robert Ebo Hinson, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Ghana Communication Technology University, has urged facilitators and educators to prioritize the development of quality skills and training to uplift the educational sector.

According to him, the future of Ghana, Africa, and the world depends on the capabilities of teachers in the country.

Therefore, educators need to continuously upgrade their skills to meet evolving global standards.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honor at the 8th edition of the Ghana International School (GIS) Time Educators Conference, held on October 5, 2024, at the school premises under the theme "Owning the Future: Teachers, Students, and New Knowledge," Professor Hinson emphasized the importance of foundational skills for teachers.

“Basic skills like technology, digital literacy, time management, and critical thinking are crucial in the life of every teacher,” he stated.

"The first thing you need is digital literacy. The second is data literacy. The third is critical thinking, time management, and curiosity."

“Students are individuals we create, and when we create them properly, they have the potential to change a generation. The future of Ghana and West Africa lies in the hands of all the educators present here,” he added.

The conference facilitated the training and mentoring of hundreds of teachers by GIS-selected professional facilitators.

The conference covered subject sessions such as English, mathematics, creative arts, and other critical areas necessary for the holistic development of students.

Dr. Mrs. Mary Ashun, CEO of GIS, encouraged educators at the conference to utilize the skills and knowledge gained to enhance the education system for the benefit of the country and the larger world.

Frank Amponsah Frimpong, Principal of GIS, reiterated Professor Hinson's call, urging teachers to frequently upgrade their skills to address current challenges in the field of education, particularly in relation to technology.
