Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang calls for unified action against illegal mining, terrorism

The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has stressed the need for collaborative efforts in combating illegal mining activities, terrorism, and transnational crimes.

In a post shared on her X page on Monday, March 24, 2025, she urged the Ghana Armed Forces to uphold professionalism in the execution of their duties.

"I further urge the Ghana Armed Forces to continue discharging their duties with professionalism and patriotism, particularly in the face of pressing security challenges, including the scourge of illegal mining, terrorism threats, and transnational crimes. There is a need for resolute action and a national effort to combat these destabilizing activities. I call on the Armed Forces to remain vigilant and uncompromising in safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty," she noted.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang also applauded the Ghana Armed Forces for their contributions to national development.

"Additionally, I commend the exceptional capabilities of our forces and encourage their active role in supporting the government’s 24-hour economy policy to drive sustainable development. Finally, I pay tribute to past members of the Council and all retired service personnel for their invaluable contributions, unwavering commitment, and sacrifices that have preserved Ghana’s long-standing peace and security. As Chairperson, I reaffirm our resolve to build on this legacy and ensure the Armed Forces remain a strong pillar of our nation," she added.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang has made history as the first female Chairperson of the Ghana Armed Forces Council.

The inaugural ceremony of the Council was held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The Council is responsible for ensuring the military’s efficiency, adherence to democratic principles, and accountability to the civilian government.
