Project assembly members and the district assembly elections

Madam Adwoa Owusua, a trader contesting the upcoming district assembly elections in the Oyoko-Asuogya electoral area of the New Juaben Municipality, has appealed to the electorate to vote for women contesting in their respective electoral areas to help push the development agenda of the country forward.

She observed that, because the assembly members are not being projected by the media, people are apathetic to the elections and does not see the importance and benefits of the elections.

According to the aspirant, the assembly elections does not generate the euphoria of the general elections because, people don’t appreciate the achievements of the assembly members in an environment of massive deprivation in the communities.

Madam Owusua gave the advice in an interview with Ghana News Agency( GNA) at a programme dubbed “women profile” aimed at projecting women candidates in the Eastern Region.

She said involving assembly members in all district assembly programmes would make the assembly elections more attractive.

The aspirant, who is contesting a male incumbent for the seat, called for intensification of public education about the non-partisan nature of the elections so that competent and credible candidates are elected to the assembly devoid of partisanship .

Madam Owusua, a trader by profession said she decided to contest the assembly elections to champion the cause of people with disability to ensure that they had decent livelihoods to support themselves.

According to her, she went through difficulties in getting help for her disabled son despite the fact that the district assembly’s had a component to support such people, adding that, she decided to use the assembly platform to fight for the rights of the disabled.
