Wenchi (B/A), Jan 14, GNA - Nana Kusi Appiah, Head of the Sofoase-Yefri Royal family of the Wenchi traditional area has appealed to members of the three royal families and kingmakers of the area to promote, love, unity and cooperation for the people to contribute to development.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Wenchi, he expressed concern about the enstoolment of a successor to the late Omanhene Nana Abrefa Mbore Bediatuo, which had become a problem because the royal families were not united.
Apart from the Safoase-Yefri, the other two lines are the Ahenfie-Yefri and Nkwaduano-Yefri royal houses and a person from any of the families could become the Omanhene with the approval of the other two.
Nana Kusi Appiah expressed regrets that the families had divided into factions and advised the people to bury their differences to select a Chief.
He noted that if the differences continued it would affect the younger generation adversely.
Nana Kusi Appiah advised the youth to be disciplined and to eschew negative practices such as the use narcotic drugs, alcoholism and promiscuity to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS.
"Opinion leaders such as Assembly Members, unit committees and Adikrofo should organise the people to initiate self-help projects to attract support from the government and NGOS for the development of the communities," he said.
Nana Kusi Appiah advised the people to maintain environmental cleanliness to prevent communicable diseases. He urged the unemployed to engage in income generating activities such as farming to earn a decent living instead of becoming a liability on society.
