Hilarious Comedy at Cantonments
As part of a supposed effort to rid the streets of Accra of vehicular traffic, some personnel of the Ghana Police Service have started arresting prostitutes who take stands along some busy streets in the capital city, citing traffic offense.
Astonishing as this may sound, the crime of the dismally dressed ladies who lined-up along some dark and almost-deserted joints in Accra, like a swarm of bees encircling lust, is that their trade is creating undue inconvenience to other road users.
Dressed in miniskirts and shorts as short as they can ever be; straps straddled as blouses, virtually revealing the sensual delights of different shapes and sizes of hipped oiled breasts in obscene glory, the ladies of the night engaged in the much-talked about illegal trade, the police say is the cause of traffic congestions on some streets at night.
Unfortunately for the commercial sex workers who ply their trade at the Cantonments Roundabout in Accra, they are facing serious confrontations from evening police patrol teams for causing traffic nuisance.
A report by Spy News Agency revealed how some police officers have taken the fight against the commercial sex workers and have begun arresting them not for their illegal trade, prostitution; but for using their ‘profession’ to obstruct traffic.
Police source say due to the illegal trade at the place noted for its plush and expensive residential accommodation, structures deemed fit for diplomats and top government officials; patrons of the prostitutes often parked at unauthorized places to make a choice out of the dozens of ladies who exhibit their sexual moves along street sides in the night.
According to the Spy News Agency report, contrary to perceptions that the profession was losing steam among practitioners in the country, the non-arguably ‘oldest profession’ has become attractive to more women of all ages.
Not only is the list of practitioners in Accra said to be increasing by the day, clientele base at the aforementioned ‘joint’ is also said to have shore up, a development that has become a source of worry to many well-meaning Ghanaians.
The report revealed how a police officer recently engaged in a fierce brawl with a commercial sex worker he had arrested for ‘traffic offense’. Apparently, the young lady’s looks and sexual moves along the Cantonment Roundabout had caused a passerby in a plush car to stop in the middle of the road to bargain.
Unfortunately for the lady, an officer in a police official vehicle also passing by deemed that as traffic offense on the part of the lady while letting off the prostitute’s patron who rather infringed the law by parking in the middle of the road.
The police officer, who was said to be using an official police vehicle (number withheld), was alleged to have also gone there to engage the services of the cigarette and marijuana puffing prostitutes.
Ignoring traffic regulations himself, the police officer was alleged to have also packed in the middle of the road and was spotted busily arguing with the lady in question out of which he started harassing her under the pretext that she was under arrest for traffic offense.
Narrating her ordeal, the lady stated that the police officer said he had arrested her for causing traffic.
Latter in a chat, the police official said, each time they sack the prostitutes from the street, they return almost immediately.
Most of these prostitutes are believed to be of Nigerian and Liberian nationalities working in partnership with some Ghanaian.
