The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has dared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to either provide evidence that the process that led to Rock City Hotel winning the bid for SSNIT’s 60% stake in some four hotels were manipulated or refrain from running down the reputation of the country.

He explained that what the NDC and the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, have been peddling with regard the revelation that SSNIT wants to sell its shares in four hotels in the country to Rock City Hotel, owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, sends a negative message across.

Making this known in an X post, the NPP director of communications said the continuous attempts by the NDC and Okudzeto Ablakwa to disqualify Acheampong’s hotel will affect foreign investor confidence in the country.

“The Ablakwa-led NDC's interference in a properly conducted international competitive tender sends a negative message to the world that corporate governance and the rule of law processes in Ghana are unreliable.

“Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa and the NDC must either demonstrate if the procurement processes were manipulated for Rock City or refrain from tarnishing Ghana's hard-earned reputation as a rule of law investment destination,” he stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa led a demonstration in Accra called Hands Off Our Hotels Demo that saw several scores of Ghanaians walk in protest against the decision to sell off the shares in the hotels.

The protest aimed, primarily, at urging the government to stop the sale of 60 percent shares of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel, a company owned by Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

The hotels involved in the controversial sale include Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and Busua Beach Resort.
