The Yagbonwura, Tutumba Bore Esa, the King of the Gonja Kingdom, has appealed to the Government to provide more vehicles for the Police Service in the newly created Savannah Region to enhance the fight against crime.
This, he said, would help for effective service delivery as well as maintain law and order to pave the way for rapid regional development.
The Yagbonwura made the appeal in his Palace when the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante Apeatu, paid a courtesy call on him to seek his blessings as well as have first-hand information about the Region.
Yagbonwura Esa also appealed to the Police Command to consider enrolling more of the youth in the Region into the Police Service to reduce unemployment.
He pledged the Yagbon Traditional Council's readiness to supporting the Service to combat crime.
The IGP commended the Yagbonwura for his efforts and that of the citizenry in getting the new Region.
He said it was part of his duties to travel across the country to assess the work of the police to be abreast of their challenges and put the appropriate measures in place to maintain law and order.
Mr Apeatu said the Government had keen interest in fighting crime in the country and committed to providing the needed resources to the regions to combat it.
He advised the youth to cooperate fully and work closely with the police to fight crime by providing vital information to protect the communities. He acknowledged the Yagbonwura’s appeal for a police training school at Busunu.
As part of the visit, the IGP also inspected two separate parcels of land meant for the construction of a police training school and a regional police administration.
