Provisional Voter’s Register Delay: You can’t stampede us – NDC to EC

Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr. Omane Boamah Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr. Omane Boamah

Dr. Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections for the NDC, has once again condemned the Electoral Commission (EC) for not providing political parties with the provisional voter’s register prior to the voter exhibition exercise.

Although the EC had requested external drives from the parties in July and instructed them to collect the register on August 14, NDC officials were turned away on that date and again on August 16.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah cautioned that the EC would not be allowed to hasten the 2024 elections, announcing the party’s plans for protests and public forums against the commission.

“The EC will not be allowed to stampede us into the elections. Every lost moment will be reclaimed at their expense, as the elections will not be postponed! EC, Release the Provisional Voter Register Now!.”

At a campaign event in Sogakope on August 16, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama reiterated the demand for the release of the provisional voter register.

He advised party members to check their names during the upcoming voter exhibition to prevent issues on election day, also reminding the EC of its July commitment to distribute the register to political parties

“In four [three] days, the EC will begin the exhibition of the voter register, everybody who registered please take a few minutes to go and and check and make sure your name is in the register. Because on December 7, we don’t want you to go to the polling station and they will say your name is not in the register so please take a few minutes and go and check your name.

“I want to draw the attention of the EC, in July, they asked all political parties to bring their hard drives so that they could give us a copy of the provisional voter register. The exhibition starts in four [three] days, we should have received the provisional voter register by now so that we can help our members to check if their names are there.

“They have asked us to come for the hard drives for the provisional register. I’m calling on the EC to make sure that we get the hard drives of the provisional voter register so that we can send them to the constituencies. And let our executives start helping our people to check their names, and make sure their names are there.”

The EC plans to conduct the Voters Exhibition Exercise from August 20 to August 27, 2024, urging all citizens to participate and confirm the accuracy of their details to ensure their eligibility for the forthcoming elections.
