The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a meeting with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on September 6, 2024, to address concerns raised by the party regarding the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR).

The NDC expressed its issues with the PVR on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, and requested a meeting with the EC to discuss these matters.

In response, the EC has written to the NDC, inviting them for a meeting on Friday, September 6, 2024, to find solutions to the concerns raised, particularly those related to the PVR following the Voter’s Register Exhibition.

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Mr Mahdi Jibril, confirmed that the party has received the EC’s letter.

Highlighting some of the NDC's concerns, Mr. Jibril stated that the EC provided the party with a voter register that differs from the one exhibited in the recent exercise, alleging that the register given to the NDC contains numerous discrepancies.

He further claimed that some voters have had their votes transferred without their knowledge in the PVR.

Mr. Jibril criticized the EC's handling of the NDC's concerns, suggesting that the commission's stance indicates that the register being presented as provisional is not genuinely provisional.

He expressed alarm over the EC chairperson’s assurances of the credibility of the provisional register, calling it worrisome and dangerous for the country’s democracy ahead of the December polls.

Additionally, Mr. Jibril accused the EC of attempting to favour a particular candidate in the upcoming elections, adding to the NDC’s growing concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.

Mr. Jibril made this confirmation while speaking in an interview with Mr. Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Accra-based Neat FM on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
