The young man who killed the head pastor of the Tema Community Four Assemblies of God Church has been sent to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in Accra for psychiatry evaluation to establish his sanity.
31-year-old Francis Nabegmado was arraigned on a provisional charge of murder on Wednesday at the Tema Development Company (TDC) District Court, which has remanded him until January 17.
Rev. David Nabegmado was preparing to deliver his last Sunday service sermon on December 30, 2018 when his nephew, Francis, accosted him at the Church office and stabbed him multiple times in the neck and head leading to his death few minutes later.
Francis has since admitted and justified the murder of his uncle with whom he stayed with until November last year when they had some disagreement over alleged deity.
The suspect was said to have brought a deity to the Church’s mission house which the late pastor allegedly opposed.
But Francis, on the other hand, claimed he murdered his uncle because he was not a true man of God as he alleged the late pastor was involved in idol worship and used a deity to destroy some family members.
He claimed the pastor had targeted him spiritually, something he said caused him to also seek spiritual powers from some gods to protect himself.
The statement and utterances by the suspect caused some people to cast doubt over his sanity though the family members say he is sane.
In court Wednesday, prosecutors requested for Francis to undergo psychiatry evaluation to establish if he is sane to stand trial, something the court obliged and ordered for him to be taken to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital.
His plea was not taken as the police say investigations into the case was still ongoing.
