Public Meetings Banned In Winneba

Winneba (C/R),Aug. 21,-All public meetings in Senya Beraku Traditional Area of the Central Region have been banned with immediate effect, until the week-long annual "akomasi" festival of the chiefs and people of the area was over. Anyone or group of persons caught flouting the orders issued by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Security Council (DISEC) at an emergency meeting at winneba, will be dealt with severely. The decision of the council followed a long-standing chieftaincy dispute which has resulted in violent clashes between members of two asafo companies during annual festivals in recent times. The meeting was attended by all the key players in the dispute including,Mr Haruna Esseku, leader of Asafo Company number One, and Opanyin Kobena Tawiah, leader of Number Two Asafo Company. Addressing them, Lieutenant Daniel William Osardu, district chief executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya explained that the decision has become necessary in order to prevent the recurrence of the clashes and protect the lives and property in the area. He recalled the harm the misunderstanding had caused to the progress of the area and appealed to both sides to give peace a chance for development to take place. Lt Osardu hoped that the faction leaders who attended the meeting would comply with the directives and avoid unnecessary confrontations.
