Public advised to respect electoral laws

Sekondi (W/R), August 18, GNA- Mr Kwaku Baa Owusu, Western Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on Wednesday advised the public to respect the country's electoral laws and other laws during the December elections.

He gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi on Wednesday.

Mr Owusu said the country's democracy would advance if people become law abiding during the elections.

He said elections are not battles but are contests for political power that must be won freely and through fair means.

Mr Owusu said people could be active participants in governance by voting to put a government in place and monitor its performance. He said effective participation in governance is the surest way of attaining the objectives of the country's democracy.

Mr Owusu said people must not infringe on the rights and freedom of others before, during and after election because in doing so, they would be violating the constitution, which is the fundamental law of the land.
