Cape Coast, Sept. 27, GNA - Dr. Baba Jimah of the Central Regional Hospital has advised the public to undertake regular physical exercise to avoid heart related diseases. He also advised them against the taking in of excessive alcoholic drinks as well as smoking to ensure they have a longer life span. Dr Jimah made the appeal when he addressed about 500 people who undertook a Health Walk at Cape Coast on Saturday to mark the World Heart Day.
The participants who included personnel from the Ghana Fire Service, a number of Keep Fit Clubs, students from tertiary institutions, the Referees Association of Ghana, Ministry of Health and National Sports Council walked through the principal streets of Cape Coast Municipality amid singing of songs. Dr Jimah who is also the Chairman of the Central Regional Heart Day Organizing Committee disclosed that the Health Walk would be made a monthly exercise and called on members of the public to ensure they patronize it for their own health status. Mr Michael Kobena Essandoh, Chief Director of the Regional Co-ordinating Council congratulated the participants for undertaking the exercise. He said prevention is better than cure and as such they should engage in regular exercises, refrain from smoking and try as possible to desist from intake of high dosage of alcohol to prevent heart related diseases.
