There is disquiet among the citizenry and some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the size of government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

A section of Ghanaians who spoke to mynewsgh.com wondered why an ailing economy as claimed by the current government will decide to engage over 110 ministers and deputies indicating it will be a drain to state resources.

Even though government through the information minister Mustapha Hamid insists the party never promised a lean government and is optimistic the large numbers of ministers will deliver, some members of the party disagree.

They are of the conviction that the decision will put the party on the spotlight for criticisms and make it unpopular earlier considering the situation in the previous government the NPP rode onto power.

“His decision to have 110 ministers will make the party unpopular quite early. It is not only through ministerial positions one can serve the country. I think they can be assigned different roles and work effectively”, a party stalwart revealed on grounds of strict anonymity.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday announced 54 more ministers including 4 ministers of state to make the full complement of his ministers which now stands at 110, more than the previous administration under John Dramani Mahama.

The criticisms of the size of his government has also gained prominence on social media with persons expressing varied views.
