Kumasi, April 1, GNA- The Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education has been commended for its decision to publish in the newspapers, performance of public schools in the Metropolis at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Dr Lord E. Asamoah, Principal of the Kumasi Polytechnic said it would help raise the standard of education of public schools whose performances over he year had raised serious concerns. He was inaugurating a five-seater water closet toilet facility for the Gyenyasi Metropolitan Basic schools in Kumasi on Thursday. The Metropolitan Directorate of Education decided in January this year, to publish the results of all public schools in the BECE examination as a measure to raise the standard of education in the metropolis.
Mrs Elizabeth Steinbrink-Kwakwa, a German put up the facility at a cost of 40 million cedis, has adopted the school. Dr Asamoah entreated communities and corporate bodies to participate effectively in the improvement of education in their localities by providing teaching and learning materials. He advised parents not to engage their children of school going age in trading, since that could jeopardise their future. Mr N. Twumasi-Amponsah, the Metropolitan Director Education advised teachers to desist from leaving classrooms for their private work.
