Pupils at Akwapim South District mark "My first Day at School"

Nsawam, Sept. 13, GNA - Mr O. B. Amoah, a Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, on Tuesday led a delegation to interact with fresh pupils at the Akwapim South District schools as they marked "My First Day At School".

The initiative is an enrolment-drive policy started last year to let the children feel welcomed and also to encourage other pupils to attend school.

The delegation, which included Mr Nyarko Adu, District Chief Executive and Ms Beatrice Lokko, District Director of Education, distributed gifts including a visor, toffees and biscuits to the class one pupils.

The schools visited included Bishop Atto Primary, Father Wieggers Catholic Basic Schools, Nsawam Methodist Primary Schools, all at Nsawam and the Roman Catholic Boys' and Roman Catholic Girls' Primary Schools. The Deputy Minister and the DCE who took turns to address the pupils, parents and teachers and urged the parents not to deprive their children of basic education on the grounds of school fees. He reminded them that that the Government in fulfilment of its promise had kick-started implementing its policy of "free basic education" adding that parents had no excuse keeping their children out of school.

Mr Amoah presented a football to each of the schools the team visited.
