Pupils starve as ‘NPP caterers’ takeover school feeding

Thousands of pupils at Offinso North in the Ashanti region are starving following confusion over who has the right to serve them meals under the school feeding program.

Some caterers, believed to be members of the ruling New Patriotic Party, on Tuesday stormed over ten schools in the area to prevent the current caterers, who they suspect are members of the opposition NDC, from serving the pupils meals.

The ‘NPP caterers’ are demanding that the school feeding program is immediately taken from the current ones and given to them.

Speaking to Starr News on the development, the school feeding coordinator in the area Andrews Bediako said the development is worrying.

“It is sad that we are doing this to ourselves and the kids. As we fight, it is not the NDC or the NPP who will suffer, but the innocent kids. These kids must be fed so they can learn, and that is what we must pay attention to,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the New Juaben municipality in the Eastern region have taken over all public toilets in the area.

The rampaging supporters started seizing the facilities after the swearing-in of President Nana Akufo Addo on Saturday.

Even though some of the takeover operations were relatively peaceful, others turned violent leading to police intervention.

The move by the NPP youth is in retaliation to similar violent takeover by supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress in 2009 when the party won power.
