Put us on SSSS by July 31 - Nurses

Accra, June 15, GNA - The Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) has asked the government to resolve all challenges and place all nurses and midwives on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS)latest by the end of July 2011.

The Association therefore asked the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to come out with a clear and definite plan for the migration of nurses and midwives onto the SSSS.

A communique jointly signed by Mrs Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey and Mr Kwaku Asante-Krobea, the Association's President and General Secretary respectively, said the difficulties encountered by the FWSC in the administration of the SSSS for workers were initially appreciated by members.

"However, the prolonged delay in migrating nurses and midwives and the health sector onto the SSSS has caused considerable disquiet among our entire membership and cannot be any longer contained by nurses and midwives," it said.

"We therefore state unequivocally that the patience of our entire membership has run out and if measures are not put in place to conclude the migration of our members onto the SSSS, the National Council of the Association should not be blamed for any eventuality."

The statement said the decision was the outcome of the second quarterly meeting of the National Council of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association for the year 2011 held at the National Secretariat in Accra on June 8, 2011.

It said the meeting examined 93our major responsibilities of care and service to Nurses and Midwives whom we represent and the entire people of Ghana to whom we owe our service of duty".

The Association said it was however still committed to working with the Commission to ensure the smooth and successful migration onto the SSSS.
