Put your houses in order – Ursula warns TV stations

Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has cautioned Television Stations, as well as Radio Stations who are violating the industry regulation to “put their houses in order” or risk closure of their outfit.

The National Communications Authority(NCA) in September 2017 sanctioned about 131 radio stations found to have committed various infractions related to their FM authorization.

At least 34 of the sanctioned stations had their licenses revoked while 13 others were pardoned.

The sector Minister in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM cautioned that the law ought to be respected.

“We are actually on the Telecoms currently, but we will move to the Television stations as well. Let me use this medium to tell all of them to put their houses in order. Nobody delights in shutting down any enterprise merely for its own sake, but we all need to comply with the laws of the land.”

Meanwhile, the Ablekuma West MP, however, dismissed claims that the closure of some selected radio stations was politically motivated.

“I have no idea who is behind the stations apart from the more well-known ones like Oman FM, Montie FM or Gold. But all the others I have no clue. But I don’t think either Montie or Gold will come and say that what NCA did was wrong or they just dreamt those charges against them.”
