QIC insures Catholic priests in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Takoradi, April 8, GNA - The Quality Insurance Company (QIC) has designed a new product that would provide protection and promote the welfare of the clergy in the Catholic Church. Dr Frank Odoom, QIC Chief Executive Officer, said the policy scheme was born out of innovation and the company's determination to extend its services to particular groups of people in specific jobs and professions.

He was presenting policy documents on pension and personal accident cover to Right Reverend Martin Darko, Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese of the Catholic Church at a ceremony at Takoradi on Saturday. The special group insurance policy scheme covers all the 130 priests in the Diocese of the Church.

Dr Odoom said the company had provided a similar policy to cover Catholic priests in the Gaoso Diocese in the Brong Ahafo Region and urged other diocese to embrace the scheme since priesthood could not be forever.

Receiving the documents, Bishop Darko expressed the Church's profound gratitude to QIC for the support and said the time had come for the clergy to look within for such forms of support. He said this would go a long way to enhance the work of priests whose duty it was to work hard to uplift the spiritual and social lives of the people.

Bishop Darko said in view of the importance of the Church in the spiritual life of the nation, its leaders needed to have sound health and mind to be able to care for others in the laity. He suggested to the insurance companies to come out with similar schemes to cover journalists whose jobs entail a lot of travelling.
