Queen Mary's Feast celebrated

Accra, Aug 22, GNA - The Feast Day of the Queenship of Mother Mary has been celebrated at Madina, near Accra.

The celebration brought together Catholics fro m the Queen of Peace outstations including Adenta Holy Rosary Catholic Church; Ashaleybotwe Saint Francis Catholic Church; Haatso Saint Barnabas Catholic Church and Ashongman Saint Mark Catholic Church.

Preaching the sermon the Parish Priest-In-Charge of the Madina Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Reverend Father Colm Nilan called on Ghanaians to love God with all their heart, mind and strength. Rev. Father Colm quoted the scriptures and saying: "If anybody loved Jesus that person should keep his word and continue to glorify the Lord".

He thanked God for the achievements of the Madina Queen of Peace Catholic Church during the past 40 years of its existence and prayed for the stability and growth of Ghana. Eighteen new members were initiated into the Mother of Perpetual Help Society.

A veil was placed on the statue of Mary the Queen of Peace to commemorate the day. The Madina Queen of Peace Catholic Church was named after Mary the Queen of Peace. In an interview with one of the Founding Members of the Madina Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mr Philip Agbe-Carbonu, an educationist and a musicologist said the church was established first at the Social Welfare, a suburb of Madina in 1965 and the first Mass was celebrated by the Rev Father John Koster, a former Parish Priest from the University of Ghana, Legon. Mr Agbe-Carbonu mentioned some of the founding members as Mr and Mrs Alorde and Mr Ramidius, all of the blessed memory. The rest are Mrs Desouza, Mr and Mrs Gunn and Mrs Hammond, who are very much advanced in age.
