Queenmother of Anwomaso assists schools with materials

Anwomaso (Ash), May 20, GNA - Nana Akosua Gyammah, Queenmother of Anwomaso near Kumasi, has donated a variety of learning materials valued at 13.7 million cedis to the Anwomaso M/A basic schools. The materials, including 205 note three books, 300 each of pens and pencils, were her contribution towards facilitating learning among the school children in the community.

Making the presentation at Anwomaso on Wednesday, Nana Gyamaah, said the decision to focus her attention more on development of education, was based on the realisation that it is only knowledge that can now bring about the needed development and progress to any community.

"The era in which wealth was the main tool for enhancing growth and development of society is over and has now been replaced with knowledge and quality education", she said. Nana Gyammah announced plans to institute a scholarship scheme in the near future to support brilliant but needy school pupils at Anwomaso.

The Queenmother said she had already held discussions with the Asanteman association based in the USA towards the institution of the scholarship scheme for school children at Anwomaso.

Miss Comfort Akuamoah and Miss Felicia Antwi, heads of the primary and the junior secondary schools, who jointly received the materials, commended the Queenmother for the gesture.

They, however, complained about numerous problems that had engulfed the schools, notably among them being the deplorable state of the primary school block. 20 May 04
