RE: Lockdown in Ghana could have been done differently – KNUST lecturer

A political scientist at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng has described as ‘false’ a publication which quoted him to have said the restrictions on movement in some parts of the country as a measure to curb the spread of coronavirus could have been done differently.

Dr. Boateng was reported to have said on Kumasi-based Angel FM that Italy, UK and US “took pragmatic steps before the outbreak and I do not think we should be doing what we are doing now.”

The publication further said Dr. Boateng asserted that government’s decision to close down Ghana’s borders is a misplaced step and should have been done somewhere in February to avoid the locals from being infected.

“If you do a careful analysis, you will know that three percent of countries affected did not do what Ghana has done. Our borders should have been closed earlier as much as February”, anther quote read.

But in a mail sent to GhanaWeb, the analyst said the publication scandalizes him as he “simply couldn’t be the person the author has in mind”.
