The outgoing Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon Mustapha Ahmed, has advised students to take the learning of science, technology and mathematics seriously.
He said science and technology has played strategic and important roles in the socio economic advancement of both under and developed nations and therefore Ghana is also taking the advantage.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed made these statements in Accra when he presented locally manufactured computers to some beneficiary students at his office.
He indicated that the sharing of the computers forms part of the NDC Government’s policy to promote and encourage the teaching and studying of Science and Mathematics in the country.
The Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament of the Ayawaso North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region described the initiative as a laudable one which needs to be sustained by subsequent governments.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the computers in a manner that will help promote their studies and to also propel them to become good and useful citizens to mother Ghana in the near future.
The newly distributed laptops which was manufactured by RLG Communications, a wholly owned Ghanaian company , he added is promoting the nation’s entrepreneurial skills and also providing jobs for the citizens of the country.
In order to ensure equity in the distribution and for one not to collect more than once, he explained that it has been designed for only students in the second cycle and tertiary institutions to be the beneficiaries.
The criteria that qualifies one to benefit from the initiative is for such a student to apply directly, provide his or her school identity card ,an endorsement letter from the head of the school and as well as data collection and keeping on the part of the Ministry.
The beneficiaries on their part expressed their appreciation to the Government for the gesture and promised to use the laptops for their own benefit and Ghana as a whole.
